When I speak of design I speak of philosophy, of religion, of seeing the world in different ways. Was not the first profession that of Architect for is not God the great designer of all that we see? To describe Sanctuary in fullness is perhaps one of the most difficult things I’ve had to face. For Sanctuary is more then just words. It is a philosophy which has developed by long years of reading, studying, thinking and dreaming. What is ironic, and I will be the first to admit it. I have had experience in so many areas from horticulture, media, writing, public speaking, gardening, but my experience in building is very limited. Yet in some ways I believe that is a blessing for I’m able to stand back and see the mistakes that are made and ways those faults can be fixed.

This is what I call the Earth House complex.

A. There are six buildings here each about 1500 square feet or more. The middle court will be enclosed to allow a year round garden, indoor pond and solar shutters to allow for an equal temperature and humidty year round.

Each home will have two entrances on the main level and an sub entrance leading to a series of tunnels connecting to other parts of the complex.

B. This circular building is what I call the Cave. Except for the viewing ports on the very top the entire structure will be buried in the side of the hill. Accessibility will be either via the tunnels or from a ‘hidden’ entrance on top of the hill itself. It’s purpose will be to allow for gatherings of visitors or residents. It will allow for showings of movies, speakers, drama presentations and will also include a back kitchen.

If you study Earth House, my web site, you will realize that I talk much of disaster. I believe God has revealed to me that the future is so radical that we must create arks of safety around the world. Some of them will be small and some large but I believe they are essential. Various nations are already doing this to protect their elite. The bible talks about these men in Revelations where it talks of them hiding amidst the rocks. To begin this vision we must start with Sanctuary.

We must incorporate a design that first of all is sustainable and able to be independent from the electrical grid, from outside water, and will utilize a minimum of 75% local materials. For the first desig I would like to bring in experts from all over the world to help create what can only be described as something different and unique.

1. What is the strongest earthquake we can resist

2. How do we withstand a direct hit from a 300 mph wind

3. How can we recycle air and water in the most efficient manner?

4. How can the way we live be beneficial to animals and humans-by this I speak of animals meant for food. Rabbits, chickens, cows, fish and so on. At the same time using their manure to feed plants, feed worms, mushrooms etc or using their manure to provide fuel to burn.

It is my belief we must create a self sustaining biosphere which does not need to be in the jungles or in Arizona to survive. If we can create this system and survive radical Alberta winters then this system can be integrated anywhere with success.

 C. This long building holds a multitude of functions but can be best described as a recreation, therapy and health area.

D. Power room. Batteries for solar power, coal or oil furnace and backup generators.

E. Fish room-growth tanks for trout, tilapia and other types of fish.

F-G Descending Pit greenhouses watered by nitrogen enriched water from fish tanks. Then water to be recycled back into tanks.

H. Parking garage and workshop area.

I. Tunnels leading to housing and underground garage

J. Administrative buildings and storage areas.

K. Top of hill. Several entrances from hill top to underground complex.
